Poland, TorunTorun - view from Vistula River on the old town of Torun. The medieval town of Torun is on the UNESCO list of World Heritage Sites.  It ownes its origins to the Teutonic Order, which built a castle there in the mid of 13th century. Torun also is the birthplace of the astronomer Copernicus (1473).



Poland, TorunOld Town Hall is one of the most outstanding examples of medieval architecture not only in Torun but in Europe. The building has not lost its gothic austerity. It is still highly  ranked amoung architectural masterpieces. The Old  Town Hall used to be a commercial and administrative  heart of town of Torun. It is located in the Old town Square where you could buy and sell bread, fabrics and textiles.



Poland, TorunThe Church of the Holy Ghost located in Torun was originally an evangelical church. Built in the middle of the XVIII century, the steeple however was not completed till the end if the XIV century. Used by the evangelical community till 1945. At present it is a the academic church run by Jesuit Priests. In 1989 the church was consumed by fire that destroyed ornamented XVII century organs.








Poland, TorunCopernicus' Hause located on ul. Kopernica in down town of Torun. Copernicus's family home- Nicholas Copernicus was born on the 19th of February 1473 in the town of Torun. Nowadays his birthplace (at 17 Kopernika street) together with the neighbouring building house is a museum where books, historical objects and paintings associated with Copernicus are displayed.

 Poland, Torun, Leaning Tower

Leaning Tower is in  Torun. It is a medieval city tower, which owes its name to its substantial vertical deviation (1.40 m). It  was built in the XIV century as a vertical, 15 meter tower merged into the system of town walls and placed on four-wall foundations, but the wall from the side of the town was not fully erected. The tower is now one of the most characteristic sites in the Old Town.
