Monumento a Colon -
in Barcelona is dedicated to the navigator Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of America. The statue stands at the top of an iron pillar designed bz Gaieta Buigas. Like many other things, it was built for the 1888 Universal Exhibition. There is a lift inside the column which enables visitors to go up to the globe on which the statue stands and thence to a vantage point giving a view over virtually the entire city. La Rambla -
major street in Barcelona, runs along the route of an old torrent and owes its name to the Arab word "remla", which means a large expanse of sandy ground. Maremagnum/ Imax / Aquarium -
The Maremagnum is a shopping centre in Barcelona on the Moll d'Espanya in Port Vell, featuring the Imax movie theatre (specialising in documentaries, whith large format screens showing 3D movies) and the Aquarium, The Aquarium is a marine zoo containing 11,000 animals from around 450 different species, including five species of sharks. Catalian History Museum -
aim of this museum is to put the history of Catalonia on display and make people aware of their heritage. The museum's cafe affords some excellent views over the city and the port. Very close by is the Barceloneta district with its seafaring atmosphere which still persists today and the contrast between its dark and narrow streets and the luxury restaurants and boats to be found there. Arc de Triomp -
The arc de Triomp was built to serve as the entrance to the grounds of the first Universal Exhibition that was held in Park de La Ciutadella in 1888. It is the work of the architect Josep Vilaseca i Casanovas. It two sides, with bare brickwork, are decorated iwth sculptures and tiles. It is located on Pg. Lluis Companys. Park de la Ciutadella -
just a minute walk from the arc de Triomp. The original layout was modified to house the Univerasal Exhibition of 1888 and later on the Zoo. The park is made up of classical shapes and contains sculptures by renowned artists. It is home to the Modern Art, Yoologz and Geology Museums, the Zoo, the Hivernacle and the Umbracle. Playa in Barcelona -
Barcelona has seven beaches, totalling 4.5 km (2.8mi) of coastline. Sant Sebastia and Barceloneta beaches are the largest, oldest and the most visited beaches in Barcelona. Located just view minutes from downtown. The Olympic port separates them from the other city beaches: Nova Icaria, Bogatell, Mar Bella, Nova Mar Bella and Llevant. These beaches were opened as a result of the city restructuring to host the 1992 Summer Olympics.

Park Guell -
This park was designed by Antoni Gaudi and opened in 1926. It is the fruit of a commercial failure, originally planned a a luxurz housing development area, but only two plots were sold. The city concil bought the remaining land to make a public park . Located on the seavard slope of Turo del Carmel, between the la Salut, El Carmel and Vallcara district.
